Qualifying Tournaments – 1st (and 2nd, if needed) levels

Teams may participate in exactly one Tournament at each level.

All Northern California FLL teams deserve an opportunity to participate in a tournament.  Due to the large number of teams in our area, we typically have only enough space at the first level tournaments to allow a team exactly one opportunity to compete.

In the extremely rare chance that there is excess capacity at a first level tournament,  teams that have already attended a tournament may apply to fill the vacant slot. They will not, however, be eligible to win awards or advance based on attendance at  whichever tournament is the second one – ie teams will be eligible for advancement/awards only at their first tournament. The option to attend a second tournament at the same qualifying level is an option only at the discretion of the Tournament Director and Playing At Learning, the Northern California Affiliate Partner.

Northern California FLL Championship

Teams participating in the NorCal FLL Championship may not participate in any other FLL Championship.

The FIRST LEGO League Coaches Handbook includes a simple statement regarding awards eligibility at FIRST LEGO League Championships.

" ... team will only be eligible to win an award at the first Championship tournament it attends."

Since the Northern California FIRST LEGO League Championship is of fixed capacity, we will not be accepting teams that have registered and/or competed in any other Championship tournaments, except as last minute fill in for cancellations, and only under the condition that no other Northern California team is interested in participating.

The Northern California Tournament qualifying system serves as a prelude to the Northern California FIRST LEGO League Championship. In essence, attending any of the first (or second, if it exists) level Qualifier Tournaments is a required step in order to attend the  Championship.

Any team found to have attended and/or registered for any other Championship will be required to forfeit their invitation to the Championship.

Gracious Professionalism

In the spirit of Gracious Professionalism, any team that is attempting to register for more than one Championship Tournament must clearly identify themselves to all FLL Partners involved.
